Media Center

The Media Center is the "head" of the communications system at Grove Avenue Baptist Church. All audio, video, computer and phone systems terminate in, and are ultimately controlled from this area. The media facility is divided into several distinct areas:

Master Control

The Master Control room in the Media Center is designed for live multi-camera production.

A Ross digital Synergy One SEG (special effects generator) can "visually mix" a variety of video sources to create the program you watch on television; the internet or on DVD.

Cameras include 4) Sony D-50 Digital Widescreen cameras with studio “box lenses” designed for 4:3 or 16:9 imaging. All programs are mastered on disc using Sony’s new XD Cam recording systems. Other video sources include DV Cam, Beta Cam SP, and older Umatic ¾ SP recorder/ players. Graphic sources include the Avid / Pinnacle Deko Character Generator for “supers” and a Global Streams graphic, & still store system for full screen graphics.

Closed Captioning systems are also located in the master control area; however captioning is actually keyed in remotely from trained captioning personnel. Telephone lines and modems provide for monitoring of our mixing consoles sound, and control of our captioning encoders.

The Master Control room is linked to a microwave unit on the roof of the church that transmits our signal to NBC-12. At the TV station the program signal is then sent to their main transmitter for broadcast. The signal is also sent to their satellite uplink for cable distribution. All of this is virtually instantaneous.

Grove is a live broadcast!

The Master Control room is a very busy place on Sunday mornings as a dedicated volunteer crew of up to 16 people work to create three programs simultaneously. These programs include; support for the worship service, the live broadcast known as The Victory Hour, and the recorded program for national broadcast known as Words of Victory.

The Master Control room has the capability of closed circuit distribution to other main assembly areas including the gym.

The Master Control room at Grove was made possible though donations from television viewers, and through the work provided by volunteers. The church helps maintain this facility but has not currently funded any Video production equipment.

Editing & Projection

An editing system & graphics system used for projection are part of the media center and are located beside the master control room. The editing system is a non linear (computer based) editing system that is used to create the open & close for The Victory Hour broadcast. The editing system is also used to create the Words of Victory program that is distributed nationally via cable & stalactite.

Editing systems were made possible by private donations from television viewers and friends of the media ministry of Grove.

Broadcast Sound

A separate sound mixing or recording area is needed for broadcast operations. All microphones lines that are supplied to the main worship center mixer also are routed to the broadcast sound room. The broadcast sound room mixes the sound unique to television, and also creates an audio CD as a back up audio source for CD duplication.

Disc Production

All non broadcast distribution of our television programs is now on DVD and CD. These products are produced each week in a disc production area located in the Media Center.

Audio of Dr. Becton’s messages are edited and duplicated the same day and are available every Sunday in the Words of Victory Resource Center located in the church library.

Terminal

The terminal area located behind Master Control is where all the various audio and video lines terminate. This is also the central hub for the phone, computer networks and closed circuit.

Computer

The Media Center is where the churches computer systems are controlled. Two separate LAN's (local area networks): one for the church office with over 25 individual computer workstations, and one for the school with over 10 workstations are located in the terminal room & separate computer work area. The Media Center also houses a proxy server that provides Internet access for all staff members. All computer systems, and e mail is actively and aggressive protected against inappropriate materials.

Phone

The phone network is a multi-line PBX system with voice mail. The system utilizes T-1 lines as well as standard phone lines for voice and data communications. The phone system is located in the terminal room.
